Q. How do I get my Contacts into e-txt™?
A. You can import files from Microsoft Outlook, Excel or CSV.
Q. How do I Import My Contacts?
A. If you can get your contacts into a spread sheet (MS Excel/ CSV) or if they are in Microsoft Outlook then e-txt™ can import them - and there's a friendly wizard to guide you through!
Make sure all of your contact numbers are stored in the same format. Older versions will only accept international format-so UK mobile numbers (that start with 07……) would be in the format 447……but our latest version 5.3.1 will accept UK numbers too. To ensure the smoothest and most complete transfer of contacts into e-txt™ make sure your numbers are, therefore, all in the same relevant format for your version of e-txt™. If your contacts are stored in a variety of formats see “How do I convert my numbers to international format with one easy formula?”.
Please be advised that a header row is currently needed on a contacts spread sheet being imported into e-txt™ (well strictly speaking it's not essential - but you may omit the top row contact from the import). Anyway it's good practice to include a header row at the top of any spread sheet - for First name, Surname, Mobile Number etc. For more info see http://www.e-txt.com/userguides/Importing%20contacts.pdf
Q. How do I transfer my contacts and message history from one PC to another?
A. Install e-txt™ from www.e-txt.com on the PC to which you wish to transfer.
Copy the e-txt.spd file from Program Files\Dynmark\e-txt\Data on the old PC into the equivalent location on the new PC.
Then simply launch your new e-txt™ and enter your activation key and user name and password
Q. How do I convert my mobile numbers to International format with one easy formula?
A. You’ll find that UK mobile numbers start with a variety of formats - like 00447..., +44(0)7.. or perhaps just 7..... . e-txt™ can import a variety a formats, one type at a time but not with a mixture. It’s best to have your numbers in international format.
1. In a spread sheet I insert a column to the left of the mobile numbers, give it a header of Mobile fill it with =CONCATENATE("zz",Dx) - where D is the column for the phone number. This creates a new column with zz infront of a copy of all the numbers.
2. Then select all these zz numbers and COPY and PASTE SPECIAL+Value option. This removes the function and changes everything to text and numbers.
3. Now I do a series of edit>REPLACE actions:
replace zz(0)7 with zz447
replace zz07 with zz447
replace zz44(0)7 with zz447
replace zz+447 with 447
... and perhaps other Replacements for non-Uk numbers.
(keep saving the sheet). Finally replace zz with nothing and that should give you a consistent format starting 447 - or whatever for non-UK numbers.
4. Save the sheet - delete the old mobile numbers column - save again.
Now use that to import into e-txt™.
--If you have a lot of contacts to import (say over 500) and find the above a bit baffling then Dynmark can help you out.
Q. How do I clean up my contacts list so that I’m only sending to valid numbers?
A. e-txt™ allows you to automatically opt-out contacts that have a specific receipt status. For example, if a message to a certain contact is rejected 3 times, then you can opt-out that contact from group.
To access the auto-optout menu, go to Tools ->Automatic Opt-Out Criteria. Simply select which status to monitor, and the number of occurrences.
